…As if the writing world were divided up between “those generous fanfic writers who pour hundreds of pages into the world to entertain us all for free, praise them!” and “those rich media conglomerates who need to shut their privileged mouths” and completely ignore that the overwhelming majority of creators are in the middle.
Like, look, fam. I’m a traditionally published author. I won a high-profile contest and sold film rights to a short story and was invited to speak on a panel at a major convention.
I also work a full-time day job and still have been eating out of my pantry since Thanksgiving.
Most writers are not Stephen King or J.K. Rowling. Most writers are English teachers and fry cooks and insurance salesmen trying to cram their writing into any spare moment they can. If we’re lucky, maybe we can afford a nice website or plane tickets to go to a convention once in a while.
So please forgive me if the “people who do it for the LOVE are better than those sell-outs who do it for money” argument leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
what’s the most demented thing you guys got in trouble for in school mine was when an english boy in my class made fun of my name and called my mum a (derogatory word for irish travellers) so i told him my ira uncle was in town and was coming to blow him up after school
sex is swaggy and all but i wish certain things weren’t sexualized by default. like i wish i could wear booty shorts without people being like umm i thought you were ace or whatever or why are you upset that i sexualized you. brother i am wearing these because it’s 102 degrees outside and booty sweat sucks total ass. and also because they look rad as hell

gender and sexuality is a fickle thing. sometimes two gay cisgender men will be dating for decades and one of them will turn out to be a transgender woman. a lot of times that won’t work out but sometimes it will. her partner may still choose to identify as gay. She might even identify as gay, and they continue to be happily in love. Queer politics isn’t going to get any better if you don’t accept that situations like that happen every day.
